MANILA, Philippines - Miko Erich Montano of JVT Racing and reigning underbone king Anthony Roman dominated their rivals to rule the third leg of the Philippine Scooter Racing Championships and the Philippine Underbone King Championships, respectively, at the Batangas Racing Circuit recently.
Montano posted another double-title romp, winning the premier 180cc Open and 160cc Open classes of the Philippine Scooter Racing Championships while Roman stamped his class in the premier 150cc Open of the Philippine Underbone King Championships.
Montano used his defensive strategy and consistency to post the fastest lap-time of 2:02.443 before hitting the finish line after 22 minutes, 8.872 seconds or a far 5.036 seconds ahead of Josh Reuben Tan.
JVT teammates Benjo Mendoza and Arlan de la Cruz placed third and fourth, respectively.
Montano also outclassed the field in the 160cc division which he won in 14.947 seconds, beating Romer Corbe, Marvin Martinez, Edmar Quiambao and Gerald Cruz.
Juver Mirasol copped the 130cc scooter title over Mark Adrian Tan and third placer Mayo Buraga in the event sanctioned by the Underbone and Scooters Racing Association (USRA) and supported by FDR as the official tires.
Roman, on the other hand, was the only rider in the 10-man 150cc Open to break the two-minute barrier as he clocked a fastest laptime of 1:59.562 for 23.791- second win over runner-up Nino Fabian.
The victory boosted Roman’s bid for back-to-back Underbone King championship as he moved to second overall with 42 points, just one point behind Masato Fernando.
Rizaldy Canare finished third while Marvin Mangulabnan wound up fourth.
Vrei-AR Suba posted his third straight victory in the 115 Novice division after turning back Fil-Japanese racing brothers Hajime and Koko Tadachi.
Other winners were Tracy Soyangco (130cc Open) and James Aldrin Mendez (115cc Open crown).
