MANILA, Philippines - Newcomer Jacob Ang of San Miguel and Dylan Arambulo of Seaoil Kart Wreckers stole the spotlight from the top favorites as they ruled separate classes recently in the third leg of the 2012 Philippine National Karting Series at the Boomland Kart Track of the CCP Complex.
Ang uncorked an impressive debut, winning the Formula Cadet Novice title while Arambulo dominated the Formula Cadet Expert class of this event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines and sponsored by Motorstar and Aeromed.
Ang emerged the biggest revelation of the day as he checked in fifth overall behind four Expert drivers in the combined 16-lap final race, with a total time of 9 minutes, 17.952 seconds or 4.626 seconds ahead of runner-up Jose Luigi Lachica of One Racing who won the first two legs.
Like Ang, Eduardo Coseteng Jr. showed big promise in following the footsteps of his father, multi-titled car racing champion Jody Coseteng, as he surprisingly bagged third place on his first race.
Francis Tanlu of AUTSRacing took fourth place while Draeco Abalajon of Seaoil-Kart Wreckers ended fifth.
Arambulo, on the other hand, struggled in the early goings against City Kart’s Tai Zulberti, who dominated the first two rounds as they continuously diced for the lead before winning both the qualifying heat and the pre-final race.
Gaining confidence, he gave his best in the final race as he controlled the tempo coast-to-coast to complete a sweep of all three races, clocking 9:1.232, or just 0.650 of a second ahead of Zulberti.
AT Tuason of TRS checked in third overall while Jacob Chamness of City Kart and Xedrei Daquigan of XPD wound up fourth and fifth, respectively.
Brian Thorp of AUTSRacing copped the Formula SL Novice title over runner-up Carlos Lorenzo of City Kart and third placer Carl Luig who ruled the first two rounds. Bjomar Eikevik and Raymond Cudala of SEAOIL-Kart Wreckers wound up fourth and fifth.
Sharing the limelight were Gabriel Cabrera of SEAOIL-Kart Wreckers who copped the Mini-ROK crown over Xedrei Daquigan; and Sacha Feliciano of Marcelo Racing who claimed the ROK Clubman title over Jaz Monzones.
