MANILA, Philippines - A total of over P120,000 in cash and prizes will be up for grabs as the first CORSA-SK Grand Prix fires off today at the Carmona race track in Cavite.
A huge field of over 60 riders will vie for top honors in various divisions of the event backed by the country’s top motorcycle companies.
“Aside from our thrust to help develop motorcycle sports, we hope to promote camaraderie among the country’s finest riders to mark the return of motorcycle racing in the mainstream of local motorsports,” said the organizing SK Racing headed by Dennis Esguerra.
Riders will dispute the six titles in three scooter races, including the Top 1 Action Matic 130 Scooter Modified, the JMMirasol Scooter 160 Modified and the Zebra Helmets 180 Scooters Modified and three underbone categories, the Honda 110-125 Mixed Stock, Racing Boy 130 Modified and the Replica Pro 150 Modified.
Focus will also be on the first-ever Honda Beat One Spec Race where Honda Philippines will be providing 15 stock and equally powered Honda Beat motorcycles to be raffled off for racing to 15 novice riders competing for the title.
Other backers of the event are CORSA Tires, Racing Boy, Honda Phils., Top 1 Action Matic, Replica Pro, Zebra Helmets, JM Mirasol Advertising, DBS Custom Bykes, Jad Racing, HJC Helmets, Daredevil Racing, Asia and 101 isaver.
The Top 1 Action Matic 130 Scooter Modified features the biggest field in scooter racing with 12 entries, led by Juver Mirasol, Jeffrey Tria, Mark Aldrin Tan, Edmar Quiambao, Cebu’s lady rider C-Let Cuizon and Vrei-AR Suba, who already scored two wins in the national series.
Dustin Esguerra and Darwin Mangulabnan lead the cast in the JMMirasol Scooters 160 Modified while Tracy Soyangco and Mimi Doblada are the favored riders in the premiere Zebra Helmets 180 Scooters Modified.
Suba has also been installed as the rider to beat in the entry level Honda 110-125 Mixed Stock which drew 16 riders, including Hajime Tadachi, Romer Corbe and Ralph Anthony Orca.
Also to be disputed is the Replica Pro 150 modified crown which is expected to be an intense and grueling battle among the country’s ace underbone riders Masato Fernando, Anthony Roman, Marvin Mangulabnan, Niño Fabian, Michael Altamira, Jeff Chan, Mark Chua, Rizaldy Canare, and Jeff Teopengco.
Among the top teams joining the event are Team JM Mirasol, Team Kymco, Team Jad Racing, Team Salbahe, Team Castrol Dudshop, Team Asia, Team Speedex/Top 1 Synthetic Oil, Team HGM Performance, Team Jetron-Hi Speed, Team Replica Pro, Team ART Tres, Team R-Works/ Evo Racing, Team MotoTan, Team Motoshop, Team Speed Limit, Team Gulf Racing, Team JDG, Team Gaz i Racing and Team Speed Tuner.
