300 tankers see action in Coseteng Cup

-

MANILA, Philippines - Some 300 age-groupers from 47 clubs throughout the country see action today and tomorrow in the second Sen. Nikki Coseteng Cup Swimming Championships at the Rizal Memorial swimming pool.

Also competing in the tournament are the outstanding tankers identified in the first staging of the two-part series initiated by Sen. Coseteng, president of the Diliman Preparatory School, and Olympian Susan Papa, president of the Philippine Swimming League.

They are led by Kevin Claveria and Paula Cayanan, who both broke the motivational clocking being followed in the United States Swimming Federation’s Quadruple A, Triple A, Double A and single A meets.

“Kevin and Paula have again been invited to participate, not only to inspire those who will be swimming for the first time, but, likewise, for us to determine how far they have gone to improve their performance last December up to this time,“ Coseteng and Papa said yesterday during the SCOOP Sa Kamayan weekly session at the Kamayan Restaurant-Padre Faura.

Winners in each event will face off with the victors of the December leg to decide who will make up the Philippine team to the World University Games next year.

The two-day meet is part of the agreement between the PSL and DPS, on one hand, and the Philippine Sports Commission and Federation of Schools Sports Association of the Philippines, on the other, aimed at sending competitive national team to the Universiade in 2013.

The Universiade is a once every two-year competitions among schools athletes throughout the world under the International Schools Sports Federation as the Olympic Games is under the International Olympic Committee.
