Former boxer seeks 2nd URCC MMA win
MANILA, Philippines - Roy “The Dominator” Dolinguez sets out to prove his worth again in the Universal Reality Combat Championship (URCC) as he slugs it out with veteran Alvin Ramirez in the Colt 45 URCC XXI on April 28 at the SMX Convention Center.
Dolinguez, who has over a decade of successful pro boxing experience behind him, is confident he will score another rousing victory like he did when he scored his maiden win.
In the hope of scoring a knockout in the event dubbed “Warpath” and sponsored by Red Bull, Dolinguez intends to go toe-to-toe with Ramirez so he can use his punching power, which gave him 19 wins in pro boxing, including 11 by KO.
“I’ll give everything I’ve got and use every ounce of my knowledge and strength to win by knockout,” said Dolinguez, who quit boxing in 2002 to further enhance his mixed martial arts (MMA) knowledge.
“The transition wasn’t hard for me and I actually enjoy MMA more than boxing. I would probably have a harder time going back to boxing,” he added.
Aside from being an excellent striker, Dolinguez is also a grappler and muay thai practitioner, reason why he is slightly favored in their pinweight clash.
The Dolinguez-Ramirez bout is the co-main event of the 10-fight card also backed by Chris Sports, VRP Medical Center, Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, Red Box Karaoke and Anzahl with Solar Sports, Pinoy Extreme Channel and Rogue Magazine as media partners.
The highlight of what is billed as the biggest local MMA event of the year is the Superfight between reigning URCC light heavyweight champion Nicholas Mann of Australia and middleweight king Froilan Sarenas.
Also expected to provide fireworks are the bantamweight clash between Jerson Estoro and Reysaldo Transmonte and the lightweight tussle of Davao’s Angelito “The Saint” Manguray.
Other scheduled fights: Dennis Salazar vs Adam Cacay; Charles de Tomas vs Isaac Tuling; Mark Dialogo vs Fred Lim, Mario Sismundo vs Michael del Rubio; Jonathan Sumogat vs Mark Joseph Abrillo; Andrew Benibe vs Alcer Lozada.
Tickets for the fights, according to URCC president and founder Alvin Aguilar, are now available at Ticketworld (891-9999) and SM Tickets (470-2222). First fight starts at 7 p.m.
