MANILA, Philippines - Jacob Martin continued to dish out fine form and annexed his second victory in as many months, beating Miko Eala, 6-3, 6-2, to capture the 12-and-under boys’ crown in the 13th Tru-Flex age group tennis championship at Ayala Alabang Village’s San Juanico courts last Sunday.
Martin, coming off a title romp in last month’s Palawan Pawnshop Regional age-group tennis tournament presented by Babolat in Palawan, survived Ayala Alabang’s Gabriel Tiamson in a thrilling duel in the quarters, hanging tough in the tiebreak to hack out a 4-1, 3-5, 14-12 decision in a rain-hit match.
The Xavier School student then bucked Quezon City’s Maraphael Teng’s power game to clinch a 6-3, 6-4 victory in the semis before stamping his class over Eala to bag the crown in the Group I tournament sponsored by Tru-Flex.
Martin actually completed a double victory as he teamed up with Cenon Gonzales Jr. to pocket the 14-U boys doubles title.
