Brgy. Ginebra Kings vs B-MEG Derby Ace Llamados
MANILA, Philippines – With a boost from reserve forward Nino Canaleta, Barangay Ginebra pounced on B-Meg’s fourth-quarter collapse, coming from behind to beat B-Meg, 93-84, for an outright semifinal entry in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Cuneta Astrodome tonight.
Canaleta put in his biggest output in a Ginebra jersey with 25 points, providing the Kings a huge lift as they outfought the Llamados in their playoff for second seeding in the post-elimination plays.
Ginebra joined top seed Talk n Text in an early passage into the Final Four while B-Meg settled for a quarterfinal showdown with Meralco.
Jackson Vroman and Mike Cortez also played big as the Kings overcame the Llamados’ strong start and Mark Caguioa’s early exit due to a fall causing him a cut on his right eyelid.
Surely, Canaleta made the biggest impact, though, with his biggest game as a Ginebra player curiously dished out against his former team.
“I’m happy for Canaleta. His hard work in practice paid off,” said Ginebra coach Siot Tanquingcen of his new recruit who totaled only 25 points in his first six games with the Kings.
