MANILA, Philippines - Ateneo’s prized rookie Kiefer Ravena heads the roster of last year’s varsity achievers to be feted in the Collegiate Basketball Awards at the Gateway Suites in Cubao, QC tonight.
Ravena will receive the Smart Most Valuable Player award for his sterling performance in his rookie year with the Eagles, who romped off with a four-peat in the last UAAP season.
Other awardees in the event presented by the UAAP-NCAA Press Corps and Smart, are Ateneo coach Norman Black and San Beda mentor Frankie Lim.
Black and Lim will get the Coach of the Year honors in the rites set at 7 p.m. for steering their teams to the championship of their respective leagues.
Ravena, 18, also heads the Collegiate Mythical Five along with Ateneo teammate Greg Slaughter, San Sebastian’s Calvin Abueva, San Beda’s Garvo Lanete and National University’s Bobby Ray Parks Jr.
The other Ateneo awardees are Nico Salva (Pivotal Player), Emman Monfort (Maynilad Super Senior) and Kirk Long (Defensive Stopper).
Red Lions center Dave Marcelo (Pivotal Player) will also be recognized along with the Far Eastern University duo of RR Garcia (Court General) and Aldrech Ramos (Mr. Efficiency) and Letran’s Kevin Alas (Energy Player).
Also to be cited are San Sebastian (Distinction for Excellence) for its title romp in the Philippine Collegiate Champions League with its players Ronald Pascual (Impact Player) and Ian Sangalang (Mr. Efficiency) also getting individual honors.
University of Perpetual Help president Anthony Tamayo, meanwhile, will receive a special recognition in the event backed by San Miguel Corp., Antonov Mixed Drinks, Maynilad, Gatorade, Accel, 3XVI, UAAP Season 74 host Ateneo and NCAA Season 87 host Perpetual Help.
