MANILA, Philippines - Johnny Arcilla and Patrick John Tierro teamed up to dominate Carlos Oblea and Justine Vinas, 6-2, 6-0, in the men’s doubles in the 30th Philippine Columbian Association (PCA) Open at the PCA indoor shell clay courts in Plaza Dilao, Paco, Manila yesterday.
Arcilla and Tierro used their experience and quickness to overwhelm the Oble-Vinas tandem and open their title drive in the tournament presented by Cebuana Lhuillier.
The victory set up Arcilla and Tierro against Romeo Dimakiling and Marco Suntay, who struggled past Permik Alina and Ed Louie Amor, 6-4, 6-4.
In other results, No. 3 Mark Anthony Alcoseba and Ralph Kevin Barte trounced Kim Polero and Elson Solon, 6-3, 7-6 (3) while the second seeded pair of Elbert Anasta and Ronard Joven won by default over Gabby Remigio and Dennis Sta. Cruz.
Siblings Alexander and Leander Lazaro blanked Rex Brinas and Franklin Encarnacion, 6-0, 6-0, while Arcie Mano and David Vorbeck stunned the No. 10 pair of Antonio Sagansay III and Mikee Teng, 6-2, 6-1.
Other winners were Roland Kraut and Karl Santamaria, who beat Chat Conta and Stephen Lozada, 6-1, 6-1; Bernanlou Bering and Francis Patino, who bundled out Jerome Patrombon and John Rey Rudas, 6-3, 6-1; Marvelous Cortez and Jimmy Tangalin Jr., who whipped Mark Ervin Concepcion and Joel Maguies, 6-0, 6-1; Juvan Divinagracia and John Rey Moreno, who held off Miguel Belda and Leandro Fernandez, 6-3, 6-4; and Juan Fidel Regis and Akio Sy, who booted out Edwin Olivarez and Vjorn Nipaya, 6-3, 6-2.
