MANILA, Philippines - Davao-native Vincent Floirendo scored another big win in the championship round of the 2011 Yokohama Philippine GT Championship Series at the Clark International Speedway recently to formally seal the GT Driver of the Year crown.
Floirendo, who didn’t see action in the Sprint race, bounced back with a dominating run in the Main GT Race, seizing control early then widening the gap after each lap en route to victory. He clocked 33 minutes, 4.656 seconds or 55.608 seconds ahead of runner-up Ramil Madriaga over the 15-lap race.
Floirendo closed out the series, sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines (AAP), with a total of 320 points.
Arnel Carlos, who earlier topped the Sprint race, checked in fourth in 34 minutes, 13.166 seconds as he copped the GT200 crown over son Dwight Kevin Carlos.
Joselu Romero-Salas came in third in the event sponsored by official tires Yokohama Phils., Enersel Forte, official pace car Honda Cars-Kalookan, Rota Wheels, and Racing Beat@Wave89.1FM.
Nueva Ecija bet Dean Joson clinched the GT130 crown over Willie Torres while Jojo Laviña took the GT100 title.
Dindo Razonable prevailed over Sebastian Jose Donato and third placer Allen Reyes in another thrilling race to rule the Classic Mini event.
Razonable only finished third behind Arvis Gervacio and Arvin Monzon in the pre-final race but worked his way up to the top, finishing the seven-lap race in 20:26,098 or more than a minute ahead of Donato and Reyes.
