Bedan tankers strike gold in Unigames

MANILA, Philippines - Defending men’s division swimming champion San Beda College re-stamped its class in the Philippine Sports Commission-University Games, winning 16 of 20 events to book its sixth straight championship in Roxas City yesterday.

SBC actually made a strong run for the women’s division crown but fell short by one gold medal to titleholder University of the Philippines-Diliman, which won eight gold medals at the Villareal Stadium’s pool.

PSC commissioner Jolly Gomez was on hand to award the medals in swimming.

Rizal Technological University, meanwhile, took its second gold medal, beating DMMAS College of Southern Philippines, 2-0, in the sepak takraw final.

In athletics, De la Salle University’s topped the men’s division at the Villareal Stadium with Patrick Unso winning two gold medals in the 110m hurdle and 400m hurdle.

Andrew Wilson booked La Salle’s third gold in the high jump event.

Meanwhile, Far Eastern University ruled the women’s side, winning the 100m dash, courtesy of Hanelyn Luquinto, while Josie Malacad added the 400m run gold to her victory in the 800m run.

 Dalyn Carmen ruled the 3000m. run and Aprilyn Laudencia took the gold in the high jump.

In men’s basketball, West Negros University took the first semis seat with an easy 77-51 victory over Ateneo de Zamboanga while St. Francis of Assisi College defeated University of St. La Salle, 71-60, in the event backed by Sandugo Sandals and Gatorade.

At presstime, University of San Agustin and JB Lacson Maritime Foundaton University and top seed Ateneo and local team Hercor College were disputing the two other semis slots.
