POW, Cogeo in crucial tiff in Life Begins@40 caging

MANILA, Philippines - POW and Cogeo Sat-Sun Basketball Club square off in a crucial match as the race to the finals heats up in the Burlington Life Begins@40 basketball tournament at Brgy. Bangkal gym in Makati today.

Tied for second with Biñan at 2-1, POW and Cogeo try to nail the important third win in their 3 p.m. encounter for the cushion heading to the final day of the single round robin elims of the Biofresh 40-and-above division next week.

With a 3-0 card, Gameville is a cinch to clinch the first finals seat even as it goes for its fourth straight against Burlington at 1:30 p.m., leaving the battle for the other finals slot to POW, Cogeo and Biñan.

Biñan also seeks its third win in four games against Big J Sporting Goods in the 12 noon opener of a five-game bill which also features matches in the Shock XT 50-and-above category of the tournament sponsored by Burlington.

POW50 goes for its fourth win in row against Paco Catholic School Batch 74 (1-2) at 5 p.m. while Divina Law/Brgy Bangkal (2-1) zeroes in on the second finals berth against SunMoon/Electrobyte (0-3) in the 6:30 p.m. main game.

Also on tap in the event organized by Total Events and Athlete Management (TEAM) and backed by Business Mirror and Malaya Business Insight are the Conti Balls 3-point father-and-son shootout and the AnaJet Apparel Printer father-and-daughter free throw contest in two categories.

Big J and Biñan pace the 3-point shootout 40-and-above class with 3-0 cards followed by POW (2-1), Cogeo (1-2) while Burlington and Gameville tote similar 0-3 slates. POW, PCS’74 and SunMoon lead the 50-up division with 2-1 slates.

POW and Cogeo show the way in the free throw tilt (40-up) with 3-0 marks while Divina Law swept its first three games in the 50-up division to lead SunMoon (2-1), PCS’74 (1-2) and POW (0-3).
