Chevrolet, New Balance to stage Power Run 2011

MANILA, Philippines - Car manufacturer Chevrolet and running gear giant New Balance, both leaders in their respective industries, have pooled their resources to organize the first Chevrolet-NB Power Run 2011 flagging off on Nov. 6 inside the sprawling Bonifacio Global City in Taguig.

“This big event is a collaboration between two top global brands known for their superior quality and innovative products, underscoring their commitment to running as part of an active and healthy Filipino lifestyle,” said New Balance assistant brand manager Ana Alfelor in yesterday’s PSA forum at the Shakey’s UN Avenue branch in Manila.

“We are proud to be partners with The Covenant Car Company, the exclusive dealer of Chevrolet cars, in the inaugural Power Run,” she added.

A brand-new Chevrolet Cruze, ranked among the top fuel-efficient cars in its class,  will be awarded to the lucky finisher in the footrace featuring 5K, 10K and 25K runs in both men’s and women’s divisions, they said.

“The event will enable us to highlight the unique brand attributes of Chevrolet while we promote good health and a lot of good fun through running,” said Chevrolet’s  marketing director Ms. Lyn Buena.

The Chevrolet Cruze recently garnered the prestigious Car of the Year Award.

“Hydrating” the participants of the blue-ribbon running competition is 100PLUS, the No. 1 hydration and sports drink in Singapore and Malaysia that is becoming a growing favorite of Filipino elite and recreational runners alike, and Summit Natural Drinking Water.

“100PLUS and Summit Water are pleased and privileged to be part of the Chevrolet-New Balance Power Run 2011 as its official hydration partners,” brand manager Eric Beja said also in the session.

“This event is an excellent vehicle to support as part of our own thrust in promoting running as a means of fitness and health for all Filipinos,” Beja said.

“We aim to promote proper hydration to every Filipino not just to runners but to individuals who live an active lifestyle as proper hydration has a big impact in our daily lives,” he added.

He noted that 100PLUS, with its invigorating and refreshing taste, is formulated to replenish runners with essential minerals such as sodium, potassium, phosphate, calcium and chloride that are usually lost during strenuous exercise or heat exhaustion.

Runners can still register until October 30 at selected New Balance, Planet Sports, The Athlete’s Foot, and R.O.X. stores.

The organizers said that they were looking forward to 10,000 runners hitting the road during the weekend race around the popular world-class business, residential and entertainment hub in Metro Manila.
