MANILA, Philippines - Elite and recreational runners face a new challenge in the tough and rolling terrain inside the posh Tagaytay Highlands Sports Center overlooking panoramic Taal Lake when the first Nathan Ridge Run is fired off on Nov. 20.
“We wanted a unique event that would both be a test and adventure for our runners, redefining our concept of road races,” said Nathan brand associate Mariel Flores in yesterday’s PSA forum at the Shakey’s U.N. Ave.
“Not only do we have a challenging course for our participants but we also offer them a breathtaking view of Taal Lake and its surroundings as they run,” added Flores of the competition sponsored by one the world’s leaders in innovative hydration and multi-sport gear and accessories.
Race director Neville Manaois, who was also a forum guest, said that the races will be in the 5K, 10K and 21K contests in both men’s and women’s divisions, and which will run through a portion of the famed Tagaytay Ridge in Tagaytay City.
In keeping with the first Nathan Ridge Run’s green theme, organizers have discarded plastic cups at the refilling stations since registered runners will be supplied with Nathan hand-held hydration bottles with their race kits to replenish themselves.
Participants in the 5K run will get a Nathan Sprint bottle while the 10K and 21K runners will be receiving a Nathan Quickdraw Plus each.
“We aim to protect and preserve the lush and unspoiled setting that our participants will be racing in since we at Nathan are committed in promoting a clean and green environment,” Flores said of the event also supported by Gatorade, Premier, Stinger, Salomon, GNC and R.O.X.
Aside from medals, the winners of the race will also receive cash prizes and products from Nathan and partner sponsors.
Interested runners can register at the R.O.X. stores at Bonifacio High Street inside Taguig City and at Marquee Mall in Pampanga, Runnr outlet at the TriNoma Mall in Quezon City, Secondwind stores at the Ortigas Home Depot in Pasig City and at Malingap Street in Quezon City, A Runner’s Circle on Roxas Boulevard, Manila; The Starting Line at Westgate Alabang, Muntinlupa City; and Res|Toe|Run branches in Nuvali, Sta. Rosa, Laguna and Festival Mall in Muntinlupa City.
Deadline for listup is on Nov. 6.
