Carrasco reelected triathlon SVP

MANILA, Philippines - Triathlon Association of the Philippines (TRAP) president Tom Carrasco was unanimously reelected senior vice president of the Asian Triathlon Confederation (ASTC) during the recent ASTC Congress in Taiwan.

Carrasco, incumbent treasurer of the International Triathlon Union (ITU), the highest governing body for triathlon, will serve his third and last term as second highest officer of ASTC until 2015.

In another development, top Filipino triathlete La Sallite Nikko Huelgas was chosen one of the 21 athletes from nine countries qualified to attend the ITU-ASTC Hi-performance training camp in Jeju, Korea.

Team ASTC, whose members will be developed for possible qualification to next year’s London Olympics, will be culled from these hopefuls after an intensive training from Oct. 16 to 24.

TRAP’s technical development also gets a big boost with the election of secretary general Mon Marchan to the chairmanship of the ASTC technical committee. The post carries with it ex-officio membership in the ASTC executive board.

National triathlon pool head coach Ric Reyes was voted to the promotions committee, replacing TRAP vice president Red Dumuk, and invited to assist in the ITU-ASTC Hi-performance training camp together with a new recruit from General Santos, Jonard Saim.

National coach Melvin Fausto was elected to the coaches committee and Ting Joson to the women’s committee.
