POGS stages Millennium Run for a cause
MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society (POGS) is staging the Millennium Run for Women’s Health on Nov. 6 at the McKinley Hill, Bonifacio High Street.
Four different events are on tap in the fund-raising event by the POGS which supports the United Nation’s Millennium Development Goals (MDG) which targets lower mortality rates by the year 2015.
“Women around Southeast Asia are getting optimal health care when it comes to their reproductive health, except Filipinas. We don’t want them to be left behind,” said POGS chairman Dr. Rey delos Reyes.
Through this fund-raising event, POGS hopes to jumpstart its programs that will train midwives about the proper ways to manage pregnancies and refer problematic cases, such as reproductive malignancies, to proper medical centers.
Interested participants can join either the 1.5K, 3K, 5K or 10K event.
“Although the McKinley Hill route is not challenging in distance, its difficulty lies in the inclination and slopes of the track. In fact, there is a 25-degree inclination at the start of the race,” said chief organizer Niki Francisco.
POGS aims to institute better training programs for local midwives and to increase reproductive health awareness among Filipinas.
“We would like to invite everyone to join this cause. After all it is everyone’s responsibility to make sure that no Filipina gets left behind when it comes to women’s health,” said Delos Reyes.
