MANILA, Philippines - Tempo sports editor Rey Bancod was unanimously elected president of the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) during the association’s election of officers recently at Shakey’s UN Avenue.
Bancod took over from Inquirer’s sports ed Teddyvic Melendres, who served the country’s oldest association of journalists in the last two years.
The new president later named Business Mirror’s Jun Lomibao as first vice president, Standard Today’s Reira Mallari as second vice president, Melendres as treasurer, People’s Journal’s Gerry Ramos as secretary and Sports Forum chief, and Bandera’s Fred Nasiad as auditor.
Also appointed by Bancod were Joe Antonio of People’s Journal as chairman of the Ways and Means committee, Ding Marcelo of Bulletin as chairman of the board of directors and Lito Tacujan of The Philippines Star as vice chairman.
Former PSA presidents Jimmy Cantor of Malaya and Aldrin Cardona of Tribune, Recah Trinidad and Ernesto Gonzales of Inquirer, Al Mendoza of Business Mirror and Abante, Dennis Inigo of Balita, and May Ochoa of PM were named board members.
