MANILA, Philippines - La Salle-Greenhills 1 and La Salle-Zobel forged ahead in the Juniors and Girls 2 divisions after the opening round of the ICTSI Interschool golf championships at the Splendido Taal Residential Golf and Country Club over the weekend in Nasugbu, Batangas.
Inigo Raymundo and AR Ramos scored 49 points each and JP de Claro contributed 48 as the Greenies amassed 146 for an 18-point lead over sister team La Salle-Zobel in the four-weekend, Sunday-only tourney kicking off the school season series of the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines.
La Salle Zobel banked on Jama Reyes 47, Miguel Shah 46 and John Molina 35 to post a 128, 13 clear of Xavier 1 which had a 115 start behind Nicholas James Dy-Buncio (43) and Miguel Tan (42) in the nine-team junior division play.
The Interschool tournament is also sponsored by Philippine Airlines, Teriyaki Boy, Sizzlin Pepper, Golf Depot, Chevrolet and Friends of Jungolf.
It was La Salle Zobel which showed the way in the Girls 2 competition, riding on Pauline del Rosario’s 44 and Bernice Olivarez-Ilas’ 40 for an 84 and a hefty 25-point spread over Assumption. Annika Cedo, daughter of teaching pro Jun, turned in 40 while Andrea Pineda backed her up with 19.
Individual leaders were Marvi Monsalve of St. Paul College Pasig with 46 in Girls Division 1, del Rosario in Girls division 2 and Yo Shen Chang of MIT International School with 55 in the Juniors division.
