MANILA, Philippines - Army, looking sharp with three straight wins, takes on an unpredictable Maynilad today, seeking no less than a quarterfinal berth in the Shakey’s V-League Open Conference at The Arena in San Juan.
The Army spikers remain the only unbeaten squad in the seven-team field and are going all-out in their 4 p.m. encounter to stretch their win run to four and join the San Sebastian Lady Stags in the next round.
Led by Michelle Carolino, Joanne Bunag and Mary Jean Balse, the Army ladies held off Navy in a tough four-setter to open their bid then swept Air Force and Perpetual Help to firm up their bid in the inaugural Open tournament of the league sponsored by Shakey’s Pizza.
The troika is again expected to spearhead the team’s bid against a Maynilad team coming off a stinging straight-set loss to San Sebastian with support to come from Rachel Ann Daquis, Marietta Carolino, Dahlian Cruz, libero Patricia Torres and setters Cristina Salak and Ma. Therese Iratay.
