MANILA, Philippines - Boxing icon Rep. Manny Pacquiao has been invited by Rotary Club of Manila 101 Changemaker president Liza Elorde, wife of businessman/sportsman Johnny Elorde, to grace the club’s handover and induction ceremonies on Aug. 11 at the grand ballroom of the Sofitel Philippine Plaza.
Pacquiao, a Rotarian himself and member of the club, will do the honors of inducting Elorde and deliver the keynote address to be witnessed by fellow Rotarians and boxing aficionados.
On the other hand, District 3810 Governor Ernie Choa, where the club belongs, will deliver the governor’s message.
According to Elorde, the induction ceremonies will be highlighted with a big boxing event which will have world rated and Philippine champion Dennis Laurente defending his crown against No. 4 contender Joel Dela Cruz of Dipolog City.
Laurente, who has appeared in the undercard of several of Pacquiao’s fights abroad, hopes to come up with a convincing win in a bid to appear in the undercard of the Pacquiao-Juan Manuel Marquez fight in Las Vegas on Nov. 12. Also seeing action is undefeated Juan Miguel “The Boss” Elorde, grandson of the late Gabriel “Flash” Elorde who will be featured in an eight-round bout. Six more bouts will complete the card which will start at 4 p.m.
