MANILA, Philippines - Dr. Jay Adalem, president of the National Athletic Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (NAASCU), has ben appointed executive director of the the newly formed Philippine Handball Federation headed by president Steve Hontiveros and secretary general Manny Lopez.
Hontiveros said Adalem will handle the day-to day-operations for the sport of handball, an Olympic sport which enjoys popularity in Europe.
Adalem will be very active in promoting the sport in the country with the aim of making it a medal hopeful in the Olympics.
Korea is the women’s Olympic champion in handball.
The PHF has already formed a national training pool for international tournaments, possibly in the Hong Kong Invitationals this year.
Adalem said they are setting their sights on the Asian Beach Games, Asian Games and eventually the World Championships and the 2016 Olympic Games.
“Our vision is to make handball at par with other sports already played in the country and make Filipinos gain worldwide recognition through the sport,” said Adalem.
