Samsung national club champs tourney slated

Manila, Philippines - Top electronics firm Samsung kicks off its series of golf tournaments for the year with the staging of the National Tournament of Club Champions slated May 24-28 at the sprawling Eagle Ridge Golf and Country Club in Gen. Trias, Cavite.

The event, now on its sixth year, features the reigning men’s, ladies and seniors club champions from no less than 24 golf clubs in the country from as far north as Baguio Country Club and Camp John Hay and down south at Rancho Palos Verdes in Davao.

Meanwhile, champions below 26 years old will compete in the Special Division, also to be divided into men’s and ladies classes.

Samsung is partnering with the Eagle Ridge GCC and its developers Sta. Lucia Realty and Alsons Land, Inc. and Inquirer Golf in staging the annual tournament which also includes club winners from the Alta Vista and Cebu Country Club in the Visayas, among others.

Prizes, including Samsung Galaxy Tabs, will be up for grabs for the winners in various divisions in the tournament backed by Microtel as official hotel, Mizuno, Glucoscare, Omnisource and Custom Clubmakers.

The four championship courses of Eagle Ridge will be used for the NTCC, making it unique and more exciting than any other club tournaments in the local golfing calendar.

An 18-hole stroke play qualifying round will be played in the first day with the top 16 in men’s play, top eight players in the women’s and seniors divisions, and the top four in the special division clashing in the match play event.

The elims in the men’s regular and special divisions will be played at the Dye layout while the seniors and the special ladies categories will be held at Faldo. The regular ladies stroke play elims is set May 25 at the Norman layout.

Meanwhile, the Samsung Interscholastic Golf Championships will be held June 7-9 featuring the leading players and rising stars from the junior ranks.
