Suba keys Phl karters big sweep
Manila, Philippines - VJ Suba flashed superb racing skills to humble the fancied Japanese and local rivals in the 2011 Denso KF2-KF3 Cup Karting Series at the Carmona Racetrack in Carmona, Cavite recently.
Using a borrowed engine from Kart Plaza, Suba of FERN-C Racing topped the time trials in 42.655 seconds then dominated the qualifying heat and beat the likes of Stefano Marcelo of Maranello-San Miguel Corp.-Marcelo Racing and FERN-C Racing teammate Milo Rivera.
He hung tough in the final heat and topped the tightly-fought 20-lap Race 5. He clocked 14 minutes and 26.490 seconds, just 0.232 seconds ahead of Marcelo in the tournament sponsored by Denso Iridium Power, Petron, Yokohama Philippines, Motorstar Eastway and Aeromed.
Rivera checked in third while Japanese Kazuki Miyazawa and Archim Lagman wound up fourth and fifth, respectively.
Suba also lorded it over the field in Race 6, completing his sweep in 14:32.649 or 2.064 seconds ahead of Marcelo.
Miyazawa checked in third 7.684 seconds behind Suba while Rivera and Archim Lagman finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
Franco Reyes of Jet Racing and Arvin Drueco ended up sixth and seventh, respectively, in both races.
RR Suba of FERN-C Racing and Jette Calderon of Jet Racing battled in a down-to-the-wire finish and wound up with a split in the KF3 division.
Suba prevailed in Race 5, wrapping up the 15-lap race in 11 minutes and 8.179 seconds or 0.404 seconds ahead of Calderon.
Another FERN-C Racing bet Estefano Rivera came in third just 1.473 seconds behind Basti Escalante of Tuason Racing, Daniel Miranda of Cebuana-Lhuillier-Maranello-Marcelo Racing ended up fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively.
Calderon got back at Suba in Race 6, completing the race in 11 minutes, 12.236 seconds or 0.438 seconds ahead. Miranda checked in third while Escalante and Monzones wound up fourth and fifth.
