MANILA, Philippines - Kenyan Eliud Kering and former national team mainstay Mercedita Manipol-Fetalvero ruled their respective divisions to dominate the GMA Network’s All-Star Kapuso Run at the Seaside of the SM Mall of Asia yesterday.
Held as a fund-raiser for the Kapuso Foundation’s Kapuso para sa Kalikasan projects as well as raising environmental awareness and preservation, the race drew over 5,000 runners ranging from the pros, the hobbyists and showbiz personalities, who included environmental advocate Richard Gutierrez.
Kering and Fetalvero posted times of 31.37 and 38.55 minutes, respectively, to rule the 10km run of the event also graced by Iza Calzado and former Southeast Asian Games gold medalist Elma Muros-Posadas.
Finishing behind the 25-year-old Kering were Inilly Tanui, who clocked 31.52, and Filipino Abraham Garces, who had 38.07, while Alvia Rqueza and teener Catherine Bristol wound up second and third in the ladies side with 44.25 and 49.37 clocking.
Jujet de Asis, 29, took the men’s 5K event in 16.10, besting Roger Denolo’s 16.17 and Jayson Guerroro’s 18.07 while Janette Lumidao took the women’s crown in 20.13, beating Marivic Tecson (26.57) and Evangeline Sajol (27.33).
In the 3K event, Elkin John Quinto took the men’s side in 9.59 ahead of Joycer Lacno (10.09) and Erock Rotich (10.10) while Michelle de Vera snared the women’s title in 12.28, beating Lovely Moreno (13.44) and Edily Lucero (13.54).
Masayuri Uwaguchi and Allysa Cyril took home the honor as the youngest participants at five years old while 85-year-old Felix Belarmino and 64-year-old Nelia Manahan copped the oldest male and female awards.
