MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Amateur Swimming Association will hold a National Youth Team Swimming Trials Feb. 24-27 at the Makati Aquatics Center inside the University of Makati.
PASA president Mark Joseph said he expects the best tankers to participate in the four-day event open to swimmers aged 11-18 years old. At stake are slots in the national youth team set to compete in various international competitions.
“I expect to watch the largest crop of young achievers ever assembled as they compete for slots in the national team,” said Joseph.
The upcoming international tournaments include the Southeast Asian Age Group Swimming Championship in Vietnam in June, the Arafura Games in Darwin, Australia in May and the Asian Age Group Championships in Palembang, Indonesia in September.
“PASA swimmers and coaches participating in this event are pre-selected class A representatives from our larger grassroots programs involving clubs from as far as Laoag in the North and as deep down South in General Santos,” said Joseph.
And if tankers emerged with exceptional efforts, Joseph said the PASA may merit them with slots in the RP team competing in the 26th SEA Games slated Nov. 11-25, also in Palembang, Indonesia. – Joey Villar
