MANILA, Philippines - De La Salle University and University of the Philippines completed the Final Four cast after disposing of separate rivals yesterday in the UAAP Season 73 men’s volleyball tournament at the Arena.
The Green Archers ripped the Adamson Falcons, 25-17, 25-19, 25-23, while the Fighting Maroons clubbed the Ateneo Blue Eagles, 25-19, 25-16, 18-25, 25-19, to join early qualifiers Far Eastern U and University of Santo Tomas in the semis.
Chris Macasaet scored 14 points spiked by 13 kills and Emilio Lee added 11 hits and 13 markers overall as DLSU improved to 8-4 and clinched the third F4 slot after the unbeaten Tamaraws (11-0) and the four-peat-seeking Tigers (10-1).
Spearheaded by Michael Jordan Arda’s 19, the Maroons notched their seventh win against five losses to catch the last bus to the next phase.
The Falcons dropped to 4-8 while the Eagles slipped to 3-9, both bowing out of contention with still two games left in their respective schedules.
In the women’s division, Adamson turned back National U, 25-15, 25-16, 9-25, 25-19, to also end the race for the four semis berths.
The Lady Falcons claimed their eighth triumph in 12 outings to follow DLSU (10-1) and UST (8-3) in the Last 4. AdU’s win also slammed the door on NU (4-8) and gave Ateneo (7-4) a free pass into the semis.
