MANILA, Philippines - Pacesetting La Salle made short work of National University, 25-11, 25-14, 25-9, to storm to its third straight win in the UAAP Season 73 women’s volleyball tournament at The Arena yesterday.
Jacqueline Alarca (13 points) and Stephanie Mercado (11) took the scoring cudgels for the Lady Archers, each accounting for eight kills out of their total of 35 as the solo leaders disposed of the Lady Bulldogs (1-2) in only an hour.
DLSU allowed NU to sneak in only 16 smashes out of 91 tries with Maricar Nepomuceno emerging as the Lady Bulldogs’ top scorer with six. La Salle also gained from NU’s 21 errors.
“The girls played very well today while NU had a hard time receiving and setting up for their attacks,” said La Salle coach Ramil de Jesus, whose wards posted their third consecutive straight-set romp.
Men’s division leader Far Eastern U likewise went 3-0 after turning back NU, 25-12, 23-25, 27-25, 28-26.
Rodolfo Labrador Jr. made 19 points to lead the scoring parade for the Tams, who went one win ahead of DLSU.
The Green Archers hiked their card to 2-0 at the expense of University of the Philippines, 25-16, 25-18, 19-25, 17-25, 15-12, with Chris Macasaet scoring 25 and Emilio Lee 17.
