MANILA, Philippines - San Beda College-Alabang (SBC-A) emerged as the big winner in last Sunday’s finals of the Futures Basketball League (FBL) at the Philsports in Pasig as the school won both the girls basketball and the midgets division championships.
It was the third straight title for SBC-A in the girls division although they struggled against Southville International School and needed an extra period before pulling through, 52-45.
The regulation ended at 44-all.
Alyanna Vergara and Irene Jardiniano, both members of the girls’ division Mythical Five selection, led SBC-A.
MVP Luke Sese and Jonah Ravago, meanwhile, led San Beda’s big quarter run as it romped away with a 60-43 victory to capture the midgets crown.
SBC-A thus regained the championship it last held two years ago in the tournament backed by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) through the office of PSC commissioner Chito Loyzaga, and Primovit Multi-vitamins.
University of Sto. Tomas rode on the efforts of David Lo and Joshua Almajeda to defeat Adamson University, 65-55, and cop the boys division title.
Xavier, on the other hand, dominated La Salle-Greenhills (LSGH) from start to finish to run away with the mini division championship, 54-22.
“We are looking forward to a bigger edition in next year’s seventh season for FBL,” said event organizer Nino Sinco of LAN Sports & Events.
