Miñoza, Lagura top Highlands ladies cup
MANILA, Philippines – Eva Miñoza and Baby Lagura turned in a pair of solid rounds to rule their respective divisions in the fifth Highlands Ladies Cup at the Midlands Golf and Country Club in Tagaytay over the weekend.
Miñoza, playing out of Del Monte, carded a net 70 to beat Claire Ong, who had a 71, for the Class A crown in the ladies division, while Lagura shot a net 73 and ran away with five-stroke lead over Marilen Bantug, who had a 78, in the 18-hole tournament organized by Tagaytay Highlands Ladies Champion.
Gilbert Villanueva, meanwhile, fired a 73 to capture low gross honors while Sammy Sy emerged the low net champion with a 67 in the event backed by CATS Motors, the exclusive distributor of Mercedes-Benz in the country, as platinum sponsor, and W Office Tower, San Miguel Corp., Baron Travel Corp./Royal Caribbean Cruise Line and Unilever as gold sponsors.
Bayani Tan made a net 68 and nipped Howie Sison (69) by one to bag the Class A plum in the men’s side while Severo Leagogo shot a net 73 and nipped Eddie Tan Jr. in the countback for the Class C crown.
Jose dela Rama carded a net 76 then edged Ferdinand Apolonio in the countback to capture the Class C title in the tournament, which drew a maximum field of 150 players from various sectors.
Other fun hole winners were Mike Mendoza (247 yards) and Nelda Roquel (199 yards) - (longest drive on No. 2), and Chony Santos (most accurate drive on No. 11).
Meanwhile, the THLC, which topped this year’s WGAP circuit, said proceeds of event will go to the Sisters of Mary boys and girls town complex in Silang, Cavite as part of the group’s social commitment.
