Highlands Cup gets going at Midlands

MANILA, Philippines - The fifth Highlands Ladies Cup, featuring the country’s leading golfing ladies and their guests from various sectors, unfolds today with a maximum field of 150 battling it out for top honors in various divisions at the Midlands Golf and Country Club in Tagaytay.

The organizing Tagaytay Highlands Ladies Chapter (THLC) has guaranteed a top-notch staging of the tournament in terms of level of competition and prizes, the event coming on the heels of the club’s emphatic victory in the recent WGAP (Women’s Golf Association of the Phils.) circuit.

A business class ticket to US and a four-night Asian cruise are staked as hole-in-one prizes with Delta Air Lines putting up the round-trip ticket prize to the US West Coast and Royal Caribbean’s Legend of the Seas offering a four-night Asian tour for aces on No. 17 of the rolling layout.

If nobody scores a hole-in-one, the Asian cruise prize will be raffled off among the participants.

Felix Ang, president of CATS Motors, Willie Ocier, vice-chairman of Belle Corp., and Sandy Romualdez, Highlands sports captain, will hit the ceremonial drives, kicking off the 18-hole tournament to be played under the System 36 scoring format.

Also up for grabs are prizes for the top finishers in various divisions of the tournament, backed by CATS Motors, the exclusive distributor of Mercedes-Benz in the country, as platinum sponsor, and W Office Tower, San Miguel Corp., Baron Travel Corp./Royal Caribbean Cruise Line and Unilever as gold sponsors.

Other backers are Security Bank, H&E Mfg, Splash Mfg Corp., Bingo Bonanza, Pilipinas Shell, Smart Communications, SM Retail and Oishi as silver sponsors.
