MANILA, Philippines - University of Perpetual Help System-Biñan edged Don Bosco Technical College-Mandaluyong, 82-80, to capture the NCAA-South men’s basketball crown at FAITH, Tanauan City, Batangas over the weekend.
Marc Gerard Arciaga came through with big plays down the stretch, including a layup that shattered the 80-all count, seven seconds remaining in the contest.
Arciaga completed his endgame heroics with a steal as he foiled the Greywolves’ last offensive play and a grand slam bid.
Arciaga finished with 20 points, while Jake Yagonia had 19. MVP Merlin Custodio contributed nine points, 10 assists and two rebounds.
Arciaga and Yagonia were later named to the Mythical Team along with Don Bosco’s Charles Corpuz and Jose Luis Garcia and San Beda’s Lorenzo Victorino.
San Beda College-Alabang scored an unprecedented five-peat in juniors division after defeating Perpetual, 83-69.
Jude Sese scored a season-high 30 points, highlighted by nine triples while MVP Jameg Anchoriz added nine points, three rebounds and three steals for the Bedans.
Making it to the Juniors Mythical Five were Anchoriz, teammate Jan Paolo Ravago, Perpetual’s John Daniel Estores and Jonathan Aceron and La Salle Lipa’s Grecco Louie Magbuhos.
In women’s division, Lyceum-Batangas defended its crown by beating Perpetual Help, 80-69.
MVP Joan Casabul led the Lady Patriots with 26 points, eight rebounds, five assists and a steal.
Lyceum’s Ellen Ringor and Jelly Bacarisa, Perpetual’s Kristine Almarines and Katreena Hernandez and San Beda’s Jessa Mae Runes made it to the women’s Mythical Five.
