RP netters dominate SEA soft tennis tilt

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippines dominated the 2010 Southeast Asian Soft Tennis Federation (SEASTF) Championships, winning the team events at the Likas Sports Complex hardcourts in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia last Sunday.

Captain Sammy Noguit, Joseph Arcilla, Jhomar Arcilla, Jopy Mamawal and Mikof Manduriao combined to beat Malaysia and Thailand, 3-0, before edging Indonesia, 2-1, to capture the men’s crown.

Playing coach Josephine Paguyo, Divine Escala, Bien Zoleta, Cheryl Macasera and Deena Rose Cruz also routed Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand via 3-0 scores in the distaff side.

“These gold medals are the result of good tactical training methods and proper nutrition,” said Philippine Soft Tennis Association president Col. Jeff Antonio DL Tamayo Jr. “Our training is right on track for the much-needed high level performance for the Asian Games in Guangzhou.”

The Filipino soft netters won a total of five gold medals, including the women’s doubles and singles and men’s singles events; while Indonesia took the men’s doubles plum and Thailand won the mixed doubles title.

The team’s campaigned was supported by the Philippine Olympic Committee, Philippine Sports Commission, Gosen strings and soft tennis patron Dr/Col Antonio Tamayo of the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA.
