Escalante shows mature form, sweeps races to cop ROK title

MANILA, Philippines - A more confident Basti Escalante, a protégé of the Tuason Racing School-Racing Career Management Program (TRS-RCMP), swept all three races to clinch the Mini-ROK crown recently in the fifth leg of Magnolia Purewater Karting Super Series at the Enchanted Kingdom Kart Trak.

Equipped with the skills and techniques learned under TRS-RCMP, Escalante displayed better race maturity with his focus and aggressive driving in bagging the title with the big support of Tuason Racing School, Ready2Race, OMP and his individual sponsors; Audi, Bridgestone, Puma, Coke Zero, Castrol, Bank of Commerce, Werdenberg International Corp., Transnational Diversified Group, Emcor, KServico, and Washington Watches.

“The TRS-RCMP lessons worked well for me and the kart set-up was just simply perfect. That made me more relaxed and just focused on my race,” said Escalante, son of the famed gourmet restaurateurs, chef Tony Boy and Agnes Escalante of Antonio’s in Tagaytay.

The Grade 6 La Salle Zobel student topped the time trials in 35.203 seconds.

After ruling the qualifying heat and the pre-final, he made sure victory won’t slip off his hands as he controlled the race coast-to-coast to claim the chequered flag of the 16-lap final race.

He clocked 9 minutes, 21.891 seconds or 5.985 seconds ahead of runner-up Aira Medrano. Ready2Race teammate Marc Meynet checked in third.

“We’re happy with Basti’s marked improvement as it also proved the success of our ideals and modules under the TRS-RCMP. Surprisingly, he learned the discipline and racing judgment of a racing champ quite that fast and we’re sure he’ll make it there on top in no time,” said Mike Tuason, TRS vice president of operations.
