MANILA, Philippines - San Beda’s American center Sudan Daniel has a Superman emblem tattooed on his chest. That’s why he’s trying to play like one every game.
The 6’7” Daniel, a native of Los Angeles, California, came through with his best effort in his young but flourishing career after he registered the first triple-double performance in Season 86 of the NCAA to gain the nod as the NCAA Press Corps’ Accel/Fil-Oil Player of the Week.
Daniel bullied his way to 16 points, 10 rebounds and a league best 10 blocks to power the San Beda Lions to a 101-74 bashing of the Perpetual Help Altas Wednesday at The Arena in San Juan City to seal the weekly honor backed by Terrilicious meat products.
The superhero-like effort by Daniel, a member of last year’s elite First Mythical Team, propelled San Beda to its fifth straight victory and a share of the lead with defending champion San Sebastian.
“This is a very emotional season for us because we want to get the title back to San Beda,” said Daniel.
Daniel’s coach, Frankie Lim, was nothing less than impressed.
“He was a monster. He really showed his presence inside,” said Lim.
Prior to this game, Daniel averaged just 8.5 points, 10.3 rebounds and 3.7 blocks.
Now the real Daniel is back.
Daniel won the weekly award presented by Accel and Fil-Oil over San Sebastian’s Calvin “The Beast” Abueva, Mapua’s Macky Acosta and Emilio Aguinaldo College’s Milan Vargas.
