Yamaha GP one-make series up at Luneta

MANILA, Philippines - Yamaha Motor Philippines, Inc. will be setting a milestone in Philippine motorcycle sports when it hosts the opening round of the 2010 Yamaha GP One-Make Race Series at the Quirino Grandstand, Rizal Park tomorrow.

The mono-make (all Yamaha) street race event marks the first time in local motorsports history where air fences, the state-of-the-art safety system currently being used in FIM racing circuits worldwide, will be deployed in motorcycle race competitions.

Air fences are laid out in critical sections in motorcycle racing circuits to cushion riders in the event of crashes or collisions among competitors. These air fences will also be utilized in the four-leg national street race series that will be staged in Manila, Cebu and Davao.

The Yamaha GP One-Make Race Series is open to unrated motorcycle riders. Trophies and cash prizes are at stake for the winners in the Expert Class (Sniper), Novice Class (Crypton Z) and the Automatic Transmission Class (Mio). Practice and qualifying sessions will be held in the morning prior to opening ceremonies at 10:30-11:30 a.m. The elimination and final rounds will be held from 12 noon onwards. Awarding ceremonies will take place at 5 p.m.  

Sanctioned by the National Motorcycle Sports and Safety Association (NAMSSA), the national sporting authority for motorcycle sports affiliated with the Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM), the world governing body for motorcycle sports, and the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC), the race will be staged in adherence to the FIM’s technical and safety standards, according to UAM president Macky Carapiet.
