MANILA, Philippines - San Beda College Alabang and Centro Escolar University shared top honors at the close of the sixth men’s National Collegiate Athletic Association (MNCAA) over the weekend.
SBCA swept Philippine Women’s University to rule the basketball event on March 14 while CEU prevented a twin celebration by the Red Lions by ruling the volleyball competition on Sunday.
The Red Lions took Games One, 58-57, and Two, 75-72. They also beat the Taft Avenue-based cagers during the elimination round, 71-56.
SBCA lost last year’s championship to La Consolacion College Manila, which wound up third this time.
In volleyball championship, CEU won the series opener, 20-25, 25-18, 25-22, 25-20, but SBCA bounced back the next game, 19-25, 25-17, 25-21, 22-25, 15-13.
The CEU Scorpions wrapped up the series with a 20-25, 25-22, 25-13, 25-16 victory in Game 3.
SBCA’s John Michael Ferrer was named Most Valuable Player in basketball while teammate Miguel Madrelejos, La Consolacion’s Glen Cadelina and PWU’s Alvin Abundo and Bryan Pallares joined him in the Mythical Five.
The volleyball MVP plum went to CEU’s John Reyes. The rest of the Mythical Six was composed of SBCA’s Neil Ganibi, Gabriel Domingo and Justine delos Santos and CEU’s John Dominic Alcantara and Joel Arboleda. (END)
