HWC players pick Street Child WC RP team
MANILA, Philippines - Wanting others to gain the experience, four members of past RP squads to the Homeless World Cup formed part of the screening committee that picked the players to represent the country in the Deloitte Street Child World Cup in Durban, South Africa.
Co-manager Ed Formoso said four members of the teams that saw action in the 2008 Melbourne and 2009 Milan Homeless World Cups – JayR de Jesus, Jeffrey Solis, Kevin Logjoy and Mark Rosales – were part of the selection process in forming the first Philippine Street Children team to the competition kicking off March 15.
“All four former RP Homeless World Cup players know what it takes to play in an international competition like the Street Child World Cup, so they helped us in choosing the players for this team,” Formoso said.
“They are aware that it is not only the playing ability but also the right attitude that is required to make the squad,” said Formoso, who was one of those responsible for sending the two RP contingents to the HWCs in Melbourne and Milan.
Head coach Jess Landagan, who had the final say, said majority of those chosen made the cut.
