MANILA, Philippines - Claret School made an impressive debut in the Toby’s Sports-Dunkin’ Donuts junior volleyball league by upending defending champion Maximo Estrella Elementary School, 25-22, 25-20, in Group A of the boys’ division recently.
The Maximo Estrella tossers failed to check Claret’s Alfred Perez and Grant Borbon who amassed 28 points including 12 kills in the ongoing league backed by Shakey’s, Mikasa, Asics and Equipe.
Concepcion ES swept Group B Boys’ Division with a 25-11, 25-22 win over Lourdes School QC.
The Lourdes squad staged a rally tying up the match at 15-all, 18-all and 21-all but Concepcion’s Ruvince Abrot and Armand Torres fired the crucial kills to give Concepcion ES their close win.
CES is assured of a quarterfinals slot with a 4-0 slate.
Miriam College ES clobbered St. Pedro Poveda, 25-12, 25-16, to move into a 2-0 slate in Bracket A of the Girls’ Division. De La Salle-Lipa remained unbeaten, claiming Hope Christian School as its latest victim, 25-18, 25-20, for a 3-0 card.
Recovering from a poor opening day start, De La Salle Zobel won both weekend assignments, beating University of Perpetual Help Molino, 25-15, 25-20, and MGC New Life Academy, 25-15, 25-12.
