MANILA, Philippines - The favorites unexpectedly tumbled as new forces rose to dominate three major divisions in the Milo-sponsored 22nd Women’s Basketball League recently.
Denise Mariel Jimenez scored 36 points in leading four teammates in double figures for St. Scholastica’s College, which deposed last year’s champion University of Santo Tomas for the collegiate crown.
University of Asia and the Pacific and University of the Philippines placed third and fourth, respectively.
The march of the underdogs was highlighted by Maria Beatrice Daez’s 10 points in two overtime periods as Assumption College rapped De La Salle Zobel, 59-55, to claim its very first title in the 17-Under Competitive Division. Daez finished the game with 19 points.
St. Theresa’s College and Colegio San Agustin Makati copped third and fourth places, respectively.
St. Pedro Poveda also booted Miriam College out of the top 13-Under perch via a 32-28 triumph, while Dela Salle Zobel and Miriam College B were third and fourth, respectively.
