BAGUIO, Philippines – Hostilities in the 60th Fil-Am golf tournament resume tomorrow with competitions in Flights A, B and D with the centerpiece Championship Flights, headed by early favorite Manila Southwoods, set to fire off Wednesday at the Camp John Hay and Baguio Country Club golf courses.
Despite the absence of the country’s top amateur players who are competing in the Laos SEA Games, the battle for top honors remains a wide-open race among the competing teams, said Fil-Am vice chairman Shin Paul Chan.
Reigning national champion Mhark Fernando, Jhonnel Ababa, Antonio Asistio II and US-based Judson Eustaquio make up the RP men’s golf team tipped to contend for the gold medal in both the individual and team competitions in Laos.
Southwoods has been installed as the team to watch in the Fil-Champ division along with Forest Hills- Niclaus and Mizuno. Other teams in the group are Batangas Barakos, AAV Builders and Camp Aguinaldo.
Miggy Yee, Wolen Superal, Vince Lauron and Chepe Dulay banner the Southwoods squad while Brian Kim, Ronnie Littaua, Peter Young, Rodolfo Villa and Migs Garcia head the Forest Hills-Niclaus team. – Artemio Dumlao
