CPU hosts Unigames

MANILA, Philippines - The 2009 UniGames, now on its 13th year, will be held Oct. 24-30 in Iloilo City, with Central Philippines University as host.

This year’s meet, which features 13 events, is expected to attract more than 2,500 athletes and officials from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao schools that have finished within the top 4 of their respective events.

Unigames founder Bro. Rolando Dizon said events on tap are men’s basketball with 24 confirmed teams, men’s and women’s volleyball with 38 teams, beach volleyball 12 teams as well as athletics, badminton, chess, football, tennis, swimming, taekwondo, men’s sepak takraw, table tennis, and women’s softball making their debut this year.

“More than 50 schools have already confirmed their participation in this event in Iloilo and we expect this to be a much bigger event than last year’s edition in Dumaguete,” said Bro.Dizon.

Among the schools that have already confirmed their participation aside from the host school are Ateneo, University of the Philippines-Diliman, University of St. La Salle-Bacolod, University of San Carlos-Cebu, Marawi State University, College of St. Benilde, Xavier University from Cagayan de Oro, University of Mindanao, Foundation University Dumaguete, St. Louis University, University of San Agustin Iloilo, University of San Jose Recoletos Cebu, Emilio Aguinaldo College, West Negros University Bacolod, and Holy Name University Bohol, said UniGames president Roger Banzuela.
