MANILA, Philippines - Over P3 million in prizes, the biggest purse in local running history, will be divided equally among the male and female winners in the international and local categories in the first Quezon City International Marathon slated Oct. 18 at the Quezon Memorial Circle.
The champions in the international category of the full marathon (men’s and women’s divisions) will receive P300,000 each with the second and third placers getting P200,000 and P100,000, respectively.
In the local category, the male and female champions will each receive P150,000 while the men and women’s first and second runners-up will each get P100,000 and P75,000, respectively.
The rest of the top six winners in the full marathon backed by San Miguel Corp., The Philippine STAR, GMA Network, Inc., New San Jose Builders, Puregolf, Shoemart, Ayala Land, Robinson’s Land Corp., Nike, Salonpas, Maxima, Manila Water Corp., Nature Valley and Universidad, will also bring home cash prizes.
The first placer in the men and women’s half-marathon, meanwhile, will each receive P30,000. The second and third placers in both categories will each get P20,000 and P10,000, respectively.
Cash prizes, gifts and trophies will also be awarded to winners in the 5k and 10k races. The top finishers in each age category and each division will be awarded with cash prizes worth P350,000.
The only running event that promotes equality in prizes for both genders, the QC Marathon is in line with the Magna Carta for Filipino Women at work that promotes non-discrimination, participation and non-exclusion. Senator Pia Cayetano, herself a triathlete and QCIM endorser, co-authored bill.
Top winners will be awarded Nike gift certificates and Timex watches. All 42K finishers as well as the top 1000 21K finishers will each receive the 2009 edition of the Nike Human Race t-shirts worth P1,000 each. 10K participants who joined the Nike running clinics will be wearing Nike Limited Edition shirts.
Regular registration is still underway at Timex shops in SM Malls, Glorietta 3 and Cebu and at Nike Park, Bonifacio High Street in Taguig City, Second Wind Teacher’s Village, QC, NEC Rm 403, Juinio Hall, UP Diliman, QC Hall and at the UP Academic Oval every Sunday.
