ANAHEIM, California – Torii Hunter’s early two-run homer helped the Los Angeles Angels end their three-game losing streak with a 4-2 victory over the Detroit Tigers in the American League on Wednesday.
Kendry Morales and Chone Figgins added run-scoring hits for Los Angeles, the only major league club without four straight losses. The AL West-leading Angels also avoided being swept at home for the first time since June 2007 and prevented Detroit’s first road sweep of the Angels since August 1993.
Hunter connected for his 18th homer in the first inning against Edwin Jackson (10-6), who took his first loss since July 19.
Joe Saunders (10-7) conceded only Adam Everett’s two-run homer for the AL Central-leading Tigers.
At Kansas City, Missouri, Grady Sizemore scored three times to help Cleveland Indians beat Kansas City, 4-2.
Sizemore reached base four times after a day off, scoring in the first, third and fifth innings to put Cleveland up 3-2. Matt LaPorta hit his second homer of the season in the sixth off Luke Hochevar (6-7) and Jamey Carroll had three hits to give Indians pitcher David Huff (8-7) all the support he needed.
Billy Butler had three hits for Kansas City, which has lost five of six at home. (AP)
