MANILA, Philippines - The 2009 WGAP-Luzvimin golf tournament fires off today at the Fairways and Bluewater in Boracay with Manila Southwoods seeking back-to-back title romp in the premier Diamond division of the event among the country’s top golfing ladies.
Regine de Guzman hopes to steer the Carmona-based squad again to the overall championship along with veteran campaigner Lora Roberto, Beachie Abiera, Kat Gonzales, Claire Ong, Claudine Garcia and Sandy Velhagen.
De Guzman and Roberto dished out solid games to power Southwoods to victory last year in Bacolod while copping the overall and championships titles, respectively, in the individual category, making them the players to watch again in the 54-hole tournament organized by the Women’s Golf Association of the Phils. headed by president Rio Co.
Eighteen other teams are competing in the event, including Alabang, Camp Aguinaldo, Forest Hills, Manila Golf, Riviera, Sta. Elena, Tagaytay Highlands and Villamor from the Metro Manila.
Del Monte, runner-up to Southwoods last year, heads the provincial squads that include Alta Vista, Bacolod Golf and Country Club, Baguio Country Club, Cebu Country Club, Mactan Coral, Negros Occidental, Victorias, Camp John Hay and host Fairways and Bluewater.
