UST, SSC spikers seek win No. 2

MANILA, Philippines – San Sebastian College and University of Santo Tomas shoot for their second straight wins against University of St. La Salle-Bacolod and Adamson, respectively, even as Far Eastern U and University of San Jose-Recoletos try to bounce back in the Shakey’s V-League at The Arena in San Juan today.

The Lady Stags, seeking a second straight championship after ruling last year’s second conference of the league sponsored by Shakey’s Pizza, battle the Bacolod spikers at 4 p.m., hoping to come up with a big follow-up to their easy 25-8, 25-9, 25-15 romp over the Jaguars at the start of the quarterfinal round last Tuesday.

UST also hurdled FEU in the other contest although the España-based squad needed four sets to repulse the Lady Tams, 19-25, 25-18, 25-7, 25-19, and join SSC in the early lead.

The Tigresses will have a tougher rival in the Lady Falcons in the 6 p.m. main game with the latter looking to start out strong in the single round phase after nipping Ateneo-OraCare in sudden death for the last QF berth last Sunday.

FEU and USJ-R clash in the 2 p.m. opener, each hoping to get back into the winning track and stay in the hunt for a semifinal seat in the league organized by Sports Vision and backed by Accel, Mikasa, Mighty Bond and OraCare. For details, log on to www.v-league.ph.

Laurence Ann Latigay is out to duplicate her 17-point performance against the Cebuano spikers as she teams up with Thai import Jaroensri Bualee and Rysabelle Devanadera to deliver the second victory for the Lady Stags.

USLS-Bacolod, led by Jade Aplasca, dropped a four-setter to USJ-R in their exhibition match last Sunday but is expected to come up with a solid game against SSC.

After toppling FEU, UST will have hands full against Adamson.
