John Hay teams rule Corporate Cup

BAGUIO , Philippines  – Camp John Hay Suites 2 slowed down with a 151 but still ran away with a 12-point victory over last year’s champion CJH DevCo in a duel of home teams at the close of the CJH Suites 21st Philippine Corporate Cup at John Hay Golf Club here late Thursday.

Jung Soo Park bettered his first day output of 61 with 62 Molave points while Il Hun Jeong and Bob Patterson added 48 and 41, respectively, as CJH Suites 2 kept its overnight 12-point lead intact en route to the victory in the centerpiece Group I division.

Park and Jeong also finished 1-2 in the individual competition of the event with 123 and 105 points, respectively.

Other individual winners were Willie Maldia of Fagioli Coffee Club (Group II), Victor Eusebio of DragonHorse Travel and Tours (Group III), Cheong Mui Go of Dreamland Foods Corp. (Group IV), and CJH’s Clyde Cabreros (seniors).

CJH DevCo, behind Thirdy Escano’s 51 and Monet Garcia and Shean Bedi’s 50 points, also wound up with a 151 for second with a 301 while Ricoh Phils. took third place with a 298 after a 153 from Ferdie Barbosa’s 54, Dennis Nicomedez’s 51 and August Cruz’s 48 points.

CJH Golf Club 2 struggled for 114 points but survived the charging Great Companies to pocket the Group 3 title.

The event is backed by Rudy Project, Golforce, Inc., Club Leisure Management Corp., Rizgolf Sports Marketing, CJH Manor Hotel, Fil-Estate Urban Development Corp and Warbird Securities and Investigation Agency.

Tony Tactay made 44 points, Inoc Laranang had 40 while Fabian Tolete groped for 30 points as the CJH Golf Club 2 golfers barely held on for a three-point win with a 229.

Great Companies, 10 points down at the start of the final round, rallied with a 121 but came up short with a 226 and settled for runner-up honors. Lanfen Hsieh fired 42 points while Gloria Domingo and Heidi Schettkat had 40 and 39 points, respectively, for Great Companies.

ABGC Team I, led by Gie Bote’s 40 points and the 36 and 35 of Gerry Bote and Efren Madulid, respectively, finished tied for third with Fairways and Bluewater, which had a 113, with a 222.

DragonHorse Travel and Tours, meanwhile, retained the championship in Group 4 as it posted an impressive 24-point romp over Dreamland Foods Corp. with a closing 156 for a 259.

Mckenley Malapas had 56 points while Erickson Go and Eusebio each fired 50 points for DragonHorse. Dreamlands drew 46 points from Cheong Mui Go and 43 and 40 points from Ronald Bairan and David Sy, respectively, as it pooled a 129 for a 235 for second while Syleenor I came in third with a 226 after a 113.

Counting their victory in the seniors class, the hosts took three of the five titles disputed in the 21st staging of the event supported by Wilson Sports, Mizuno, Manila Southwoods, Sherwood Hills, Forest Hills, Boracay Sands, Fairways & Bluewater, Kork, Inc., Le Chef @ the Manor and Splendido Taal.

Fagioli Coffee Club topped Group 2 with a 267 for a five-point win over CJH Suites I. — end it//thanks
