Mosley wants Pacman, Mayweather next
For Sugar Shane Mosley, it’s a choice between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Exactly a week after his earth-shaking knockout of Antonio Margarito at the Staples Center, the 37-year-old Mosley is looking for another big fight – against Pacquiao or Mayweather.
The new WBA welterweight champion, who used his vaunted speed to stop Margarito, told sportscaster Brian Kenny that while other windows are open, in his radar are these two fighters.
“I want the one with the most money,” he was quoted as saying.
Yes, he must be referring to Pacquiao, now the No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter. Besides, Mayweather is still hiding in retirement, unsure if he’d ever do it again on top of the boxing ring.
Whoever fights Pacquiao at this stage is assured of millions of dollars in his pocket. On May 2, it’s Ricky Hatton who gets a crack at Pacquiao who destroyed Oscar dela Hoya last Dec. 6.
Mosley probably took home a million or two against Margarito but can surely get more against Pacquiao.
“It’s probably going to be Manny Pacquiao or Floyd Mayweather. Those would be the top two guys that I would want to pick first,” added Mosley, who has close ties with Golden Boy Promotions.
Shortly after beating Margarito, he said he’s ready to fight anyone..
“Then you have Miguel Cotto and Ricky Hatton as well. I’m looking for the big fights, the ones that people want to see. This (Margarito) was a fight that people wanted to see and I want (to) bring many more.
“The welterweight division is loaded,” he said without saying if he’d be willing to fight Pacquiao at a lower weight class, after the latter said his fight with Dela Hoya was his first and last at 147 pounds.
Mosley is the only fighter to have beaten Dela Hoya twice – in 2000 and 2003
Pacquiao, getting himself ready for the Hatton fight, told scribes the other night he’s ready to face anyone else. But first he’s got to focus on Hatton, the IBO light-welterweight champion.
“They all have chances of facing me,” he said, referring to Mosley, Margarito or Mayweather.
“I would like to fight all of the top fighters. Mayweather is out there. If he wants to come out of retirement and fight again – I’ve been hearing rumors of that. Manny Pacquiao had a good outing against Oscar dela Hoya,” he said as reported by boxingscene.com.
