Muscle cars have been a big hit in the US racing scene and soon it will be a big spectacle in the Philippines.
Filipino racing fans only see these monster machines in cable sports programs, as they fancy on the powerful engines, the big wheels and moreover, the macho car built that quickly catches anyone’s attention.
But actually, there are more than 20 of these so-called American Muscle Cars in the Philippines and avid racing fans will have the chance to witness five of these in action in the forthcoming 2008 Pagccor Drag Racing Championships-Northern Series set Nov. 15-16 at the newly built Clark International Speedway Drag Strip in Clark Ecozone, Pampanga.
And when it comes to muscle cars, Clark-based retired servicemen John Rizya and Ken Kepner are tagged the authorities, having won several events during the 80’s and the 90’s.
The re-emergence of muscle cars will bring Philippine Drag Racing to a higher level as they are expected to break into the nine-second barrier on the quarter-mile strip.
Adding color to the event is the looming rivalry of these American muscle cars against the new but equally powerful four-cylinder cars.
