Dayrit reelected head of Asian fencing body
Former Philippine Olympic Committee president Celso Dayrit won a second term as president of the Fencing Confederation of Asia (FCA).
Dayrit, who heads the country’s fencing association, was reelected unopposed during the FCA’s 20th general assembly meeting Monday in Yanggu City in Korea.
As FCA chief, Dayrit represents Asia in the executive committee of the Paris-based Federation Internationale D’ Escrime (FIE) headed by Rene Roch of France.
The FCA is the second largest and strongest fencing continent in the world with 36 member countries behind powerhouse Europe and ahead of the Americas, Africa and Oceania.
No less than Roch himself witnessed the elections and lauded Dayrit for the rapid development of the sport in Asia during his four-year tenure.
Dayrit became the 12th president of the POC in 1999 succeeding Cristy Ramos-Jalasco. – Joey Villar
