Milo supports nat’l athletes Beijing campaign

-

As the 15 Filipino athletes begin their bid for the Olympic gold in Beijing, Milo continues to support the country’s quest for the elusive medal by way of maintaining scientific youth sports programs.

“We believe that by supporting Philippine sports by maintaining scientific sports programs, especially for the youth, we should be able to finally excel in the Olympics soon,” said Nestle AVP and Milo sports events executive Pat Goc-Ong. “In this regard, we join the nation in the efforts to produce our first Olympic champion.”

Through the years, Milo has been supporting the country’s sports programs in the grassroots level, holding various summer sports clinics, which offer scientific training in badminton, basketball, bowling, chess, football, gymnastics, ice skating, karatedo, lawn tennis, muay, swimming, taekwondo and volleyball.

It also stages a series of annual tournaments such as the Milo Football Festival, Milo Junior Tennis Cup, Super Karate Kids, Bea Lucero Gymnastics Cup, Milo-sponsored BEST Center SBP-Passerelle basketball tournaments and the Milo Little Olympics, which help youngsters improve what they learned from the clinics in an Olympics-style competition.

Milo also extends its backing to major tournaments where members of the national team can hone their skills. These include the staging of National Milo Marathon, the longest-running marathon event in the country, and its partnership with the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) for elite competitions, including the biennial Southeast Asian Games.

Some of the products of the Milo programs have actually made it to the Olympics themselves, led by taekwondo jins Toni Rivero and Tshomlee Go, who both played in Athens and will be seeing action again in Beijing.

Milo endorser Miguel Molina, the US-trained swimmer named the Best Male Athlete of the 2007 SEA Games, is also competing in his second Olympics.
